Chapter 2: Questioning Game Continues
After dinner, Ho Tin (Pakho Chau) and Lam Fei (Miriam Yeung) take an evening stroll, hand in hand, and sit on the stairs where they had bid farewell with deep feelings for each other.
Ho Tin: Hey, let’s play the game again. Ask me questions that you have not had a chance to ask yet. I’ll start. How have you been since we last met?
Lam Fei holds onto Ho Tin’s arm and looks at him.
Lam Fei: Well… my career has taken off and has exceeded my expectations. Kai Kai (Yuen Tin Bo) is doing quite well in school. Baba (Benz Hui) decided to retire and take care of us. I occasionally meet up with See Lui (Rebecca Zhu) and we videochat with Fung Wah (Alice Chan).
Ho Tin: But how have YOU been otherwise?
Lam Fei: Like a piece of my heart has been missing and I have been unable to find it. But it looks like I’ve found it in Central today.
Ho Tin hugs her tightly.
Lam Fei: My turn to ask. How come you haven’t contacted us after you left?
Ho Tin: I thought you would get back with Gim Hung (Raymond Wong).
Lam Fei: What makes you think that?
Ho Tin: Six years ago, when Auntie Annie (Eva Lai) asked if you would get back with Gim Hung when he was trying to get custody of Kai Kai, you said yes. I was outside the office listening.
Lam Fei tries to remember when.
Lam Fei: You were there??
Ho Tin: Well, I left after you said that. My heart shattered hearing that.
Lam Fei: Then you must have missed the other part where I said I would have for the sake of Kai Kai, but not anymore at that moment, because I knew I loved you then.
Ho Tin: I thought after I left, you and Gim Hung would get back together as a family and raise Kai Kai. I didn’t want to contact you for us to change our minds. I just wanted you to be happy.
Lam Fei: Of course not…
Ho Tin: Anyways, let’s let the past stay in the past. Let’s stay in the present. I have another question for you. Who did you think of when you first wake up in the morning and before you go to bed?
Lam Fei: Kai Kai and…
Ho Tin: Oh, there’s someone else? Who? Who?
Ho Tin looks at her, eyes widened. The last time he asked this question, she immediately said Kai Kai, without even thinking.
Ho Tin: Ok, tell me more.
Lam Fei: … And this person who was studying in med school in the UK. I wondered if he would be bored during the gloomy and rainy days in the UK. I wondered if he was cold during the winter months. I wondered if he would be eating just cup noodles for meals. I wondered when he was coming back. Did I wonder things correctly?
Ho Tin: Yes, I was bored. Yes, it was cold in the winter. And yes, I did eat a lot of cup noodles. I didn’t have much free time outside of school and rotations, so I ate whatever was quick and convenient. But I also wanted to finish as soon as possible and come back to Hong Kong.
Lam Fei: Did you meet any better options after you became a doctor?
Ho Tin: Yes, but none of them caught my eyes. I only see a special someone in a sea of people. How about you? Did you encounter any smart men who were worthy?
Lam Fei: Nope, none of them were worthy for me to fall in love again. You were worth the wait.
Ho Tin: Anyways, it’s getting late. I’ll send you home.
Lam Fei: Sounds good!
