Waiting With Him at the Hospital (Episode 03)

After Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) introduces Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) as his girlfriend to Grandpa (Kefa Cui) right before he is wheeled in for his operation, Yun Shu accompanies Sinian outside the operation room. Seeing that he is nervous, she starts playing Soduku on her phone to distract him. It is also the first time they revisit her failing the thesis, with Sinian taking the blame that his emotions were partially affected after learning of Grandpa’s diagnosis and Yun Shu acknowledging the fact that she was in fact late. In this moment, both their past grudges dissolve. 

Coming Home and Seeing Her Napping (Episode 03)

To thank Yun Shu for helping him, Sinian agrees to let her stay at his apartment for a month as she sorts out her living arrangements because the apartment that he bought was supposed to be Yun Shu’s, just that she was scammed by her cousin. Sinian goes home to find Yun Shu napping on the couch and while trying to figure out what she is saying, he drops the Pocky he is eating into her mouth. He frantically and nervously tries to retrieve it as Yun Shu’s head accidentally hits his nose, giving him a nosebleed. 

Her Sister is Back (Episode 05)

Yun Lan (Ma Yanting) shows up at the apartment, catching Yun Shu off guard, who was about to move out with her suitcase. Yun Lan does not know that their cousin had scammed Yun Shu for all the money their father left to them to invest. She begs Sinian to pretend to be her boyfriend to explain to Yun Lan, who has a hard time believing them until she sits down with them individually, questioning how they met and miraculously, they come up with the same answers. Yun Lan only stays for one night though because the next morning she finds out that Yun Shu has not graduated yet and is disappointed. Sinian stands up for Yun Shu and assures Yun Lan that he will look after her and makes sure she graduates a year later. 

Looking for the Stuffed Bunny (Episode 05)

Sinian and Yun Shu are forced to share the same room to give the study, which Yun Shu was staying in, to Yun Lan. After realizing that her beloved stuffed bunny, which was a gift from her deceased father, has gone missing, Sinian accompanies her to look for it. He even climbs the dumpsters and gets himself covered in dirt while trying to look for it. They go back empty handed, until they see a young girl with the stuffed bunny. Sinian tries to buy the stuffed bunny off from her. After unsuccessfully bargaining, he hands the young girl the money and runs off with the stuffed bunny. Yun Shu asks why he is helping her to which he replies she is worth it. Touches by his actions, Yun Shu agrees to enter a marriage contract with him as Sinian had previously requested. 

Fining Himself for Accidentally Touching Her (Episode 06)

In the marriage contract, there is a clause that Sinian added which involves no skinship between them. For the first few times when he accidentally touched her hand when they interacted, he would put RMB 100 into the glass jar. Yun Shu proposes to remove the clause as it is hard to avoid accidental touching if they are living in the same apartment. She also does not want Grandpa to be suspicious of them faking a relationship when they visit him. Sinian agrees. 

Practice for Walking Down the Aisle (Episode 06)

Sinian draws out the stage of the wedding venue on the recreational area outside their apartment. Sinian is just trying to make sure things go as planned but it is obvious that Yun Shu has already developed feelings for him. They rehearse walking down the aisle, exchanging their vows and their wedding rings. Sinian has also calculated that they can fake the kiss if they are positioned 30° from the audience. As they are holding the fake kiss in position, they are interrupted by Yun Lan’s call, who opposes their fake marriage and asks Yun Shu to call it off. 

Seeing Her in the Wedding Dress (Episode 07)

After a few hiccups, Yun Shu decides to go ahead with the wedding. What she does not know is that Sinian had went ahead and changed the wedding venue from a simple one to one by the ocean, something she had always envisioned. Sinian is astonished when he sees Yun Shu in her wedding dress. 

The Wedding Kiss (Episode 07)

Yun Lan also comes to the wedding, even though she had previously declined to. Talking outside the bridal makeup room, Sinian assures Yun Lan that he will respect, cherish, and protect Yun Shu, and treat her like family, even though they have entered an agreement. After hearing this, Yun Shu goes in for a real wedding kiss when they walk down the aisle. This catches everyone off guard, including Sinian, but he goes with it. 

Trailing Behind Her After Work (Episode 10)

After Yun Shu moves out not wanting to bother Sinian anymore, they encounter each other after visiting Grandpa in the hospital. Yun Shu informs Sinian she has started working at the local supermarket as a beer promoter. Sinian helps her to lie to Yun Lan when she spots them at the supermarket. The manager scolds Yun Shu for taking off without notification. Sinian stands up for her and tells the manager he is her husband. He waits for her to get off work and trails behind her. He smiles sweetly in the process of doing so, for he is not sure why he doing such things either.

Cleaning the Beach House (Episode 11)

Grandpa instructs them individually to help clean the beach house before he is discharged from the hospital. Sinian walks into Yun Shu dancing to music. He catches her just as she falls while dusting the bookshelf. Yun Shu unintentionally finds a book of fairytales with The Little Mermaid drawn all over. Sinian is a little upset that she looked through his childhood room, but quickly calls her back over to help get rid of a gecko.

Sharing a Bed (Episode 11)

They stay for the night at the beach house and share a bed. Misunderstandings and intentions are clarified between them. Sinian was trying to maintain a distance and not let any of his colleagues at the university know because he does not want this contractual marriage to affect her later in the future. He suggests they do not have to maintain a distance in private. But if she does not mind, he will not mind letting others know their relationship as well. 

Mermaid by the Sea (Episode 11)

After learning of Sinian’s childhood from Grandpa, Yun Shu understands why Sinian hates the Little Mermaid. It is because when his parents died in an accident, Grandpa lied to young Sinian that his mom is a mermaid who had gone back to the sea and will come back when he grows older. Sinian is also very cool towards people because of his childhood. Before they leave the beach, Yun Shu puts on a mermaid’s tale sitting on a rock by the ocean and tells Sinian that the Little Mermaid is back to see him. This opens Sinian’s heart. 

Realizing They Had Met at the Movie Theater Before (Episode 11)

While waiting for Yun Shu, Sinian finds a movie ticket sandwiched between her sketchbook. He realizes she is the girl who lost her shoe at the movie theater that night when he was crying in there after learning of Grandpa’s diagnosis. He threw her back the shoe not wanting anyone to see him crying. Yun Shu recalls she was awoken by someone crying in the movie theater that night. Sinian, who has accustomed to telling white lies now, denies saying it was noise from the movie. Yun Shu gently reminds him that was a silent film. Sinian can only smile it off. 

Reorganizing Her Room to Welcome Her Back (Episode 12)

Sinian invites Yun Shu back to the apartment on their car ride back home from the beach house. Yun Shu has her doubts but she has in fact already packed her suitcase. She walks into the study to see Sinian hanging up new curtains for her to block out the sunlight. He has changed her bedsheets and got her new drawers to store her personal belongings. Once again, Sinian shows he is attentive and caring.

Trying to Get Her Attention (Episode 12)

When Yun Shu starts her new job at the law office, she brings reference materials home to study. Sinian tries to get her attention but she only thinks about work. He even changes into a colorful set of pajamas that she got him previously, but she only takes a quick glance and gets right back to looking at the reference materials. Instead she tells him to turn down the volume of the TV.

Standing Up for Her (Episode 12)

Seeing that Yun Shu is overloaded with work, and has not been paying much attention to him, he storms into his former classmate, Meng Ran’s (Hank Qi) office to inquire. Since Yun Shu does not know he is the one who got her the job at the law office, Sinian has no choice but to hide under Meng Ran’s desk when Yun Shu walks in. But to Sinian’s dissatisfaction, Yun Shu says the workload is doable. 

Supermarket Adventures (Episode 12)

Yun Shu brings Sinian to the supermarket to shop for groceries after he tells her his only sources of entertainment are math and work. Sinian uses his skills to help calculate what is the best way to buy items to save the most out of the ongoing promotions, pleasing the housewives. When they are about to pay, the housewives thank him and ask if he and Yun Shu are dating. He answers they are married. After he received Yun Shu’s acknowledgment at the beach house, he also does not hesitate to let others know of their relationship status when they ask. 

Picking Her Up from Work (Episode 13)

Overhearing from his colleague that the temperature will drop that night, Sinian decides to pick Yun Shu up from work at the law office. He gets there just as Meng Ran is putting his suit jacket on Yun Shu. Sinian quickly removes it and hands it back to Meng Ran. He even spots one strand of Yun Shu’s hair on Meng Ran and removes it from his shirt. Sinian puts his jacket on Yun Shu instead. This is the beginning of the showdown between the two former classmates.

Snail Noodles Dinner (Episode 13)

Meng Ran invites them to dinner. Sinian has obviously never had snail noodles before when he questions the smell inside the restaurant. Yun Shu and Meng Ran excitedly pick what to add to their snail noodles. Meng Ran announces he will have the same order as Yun Shu. Sinian steps it up and announces he will share a bowl with Yun Shu.

Feeding Him Ginger Tea (Episode 13)

Sinian has caught a cold from lending Yun Shu his jacket, but he refuses to admit that he is sick. Yun Shu makes him hot ginger tea, but he does not believe in things not backed by science. Seeing that Yun Shu has already made it, he gives in to drink it to prove that it does not work. He drinks it and looks at her with puppy eyes as Yun Shu blows on the ginger tea to make it cooler.

Declaring He is Her Husband (Episode 13)

After a difficult client accidentally spills hot coffee on Yun Shu’s leg, Sinian runs to the hospital to see Yun Shu and is not pleased to know that Meng Ran was there at the time of the incident. The two men fight over feeding Yun Shu fried chicken and at the end, Yun Shu gets sauce all over her face from the fried chicken. When the nurse comes to ask who is Yun Shu’s family, Meng Ran says he is her boss while Sinian proudly declares he is her husband. He shuts the car window and drives off before Yun Shu and Meng Ran finish their conversation. The jealousy in Sinian is really starting to become apparent.

Helping Her Up from the Bathroom Floor (Episode 13)

When they get back from the hospital, Sinian carefully helps to wrap her leg so that she can take a shower. Yun Shu falls in the bathroom and does not want Sinian to go in, because she only has on a bathrobe. When she falls again, Sinian barges in, but his eyes are closed as he tries to find Yun Shu on the floor and carries her back to her room.

Having Dinner with Her Coworkers (Episode 14)

After winning a case for the difficult client, Meng Ran invites the entire law firm out for a celebratory dinner. Sinian accompanies Yun Shu as her leg has not completely healed yet. She introduces Sinian as her cousin, but when her coworkers ask Sinian if he has a girlfriend, he replies that he is married. For the entire duration of the dinner, Sinian is obviously uncomfortable and constantly trying to compete with Meng Ran for Yun Shu’s attention. 

Men’s Talk (Episode 14)

Going outside for some fresh air, Meng Ran announces he wants to have a fair competition with Sinian for Yun Shu. In Yun Shu, Meng Ran sees a clumsy yet hardworking, a generous and happy girl who had slowly attracted him and makes him want to look after her. Sinian reminds him that Yun Shu is already his legally married wife, but Meng Ran also reminds him that they are only married under a contract. Sinian pulls onto his collar, where their faces are so close that their noses touch. Sinian is taken aback because he did not anticipate there would suddenly be another person fighting for Yun Shu’s affection at the time he starts to have feelings for Yun Shu. 

A Beautiful Confession (Episode 15)

Meng Ran starts taking action. On the day of Yun Shu’s birthday, he instructs her to organize and decorate a venue for an important client dinner, but it is actually for her birthday. He serenades her with a self-composed song on the piano and confesses to her and let’s her know that he has told Sinian as well. He thinks Yun Shu should have the choice to be loved and choose who to be with. But Yun Shu is more interested in knowing what Sinian thinks, because she only loves Sinian. Yun Shu asks him what exactly is love but Meng Ran does not have a direct answer. Meng Ran thinks it is not love between her and Sinian, but rather a feeling of gratefulness because he was there when she needed help the most.

Celebrating Her Birthday the Day After (Episode 16)

Sinian had originally bought a birthday cake to celebrate Yun Shu’s birthday, but after seeing her downstairs holding Meng Ran’s hand, he thinks they are together. He hurries upstairs and puts the cake away and hides in his room. The following night, Yun Shu prepares dinner and they experience a blackout. Sinian prepares the cake from the refrigerator as Yun Shu looks for candles. She apologizes for coming home late the night before, explaining that Meng Ran was merely just bringing back her phone to her. Sinian is relieved and his heart rate spikes uncontrollably as he sees Yun Shu making a wish with tears in her eyes.

Scavenging Clams (Episode 16)

Wanting to know why he has been doing things he normally does not, Sinian seeks advice from his friend Lu Yu (Dai Yun Fan). Lu Yu instructs Sinian to kiss Yun Shu to test if he is in love with Yun Shu. As Sinian and Yun Shu visit Grandpa by the beach, they go clamming. Sinian attempts to lean closer to Yun Shu to kiss her but they bump foreheads instead. He awkwardly explains that he just lost his balance. Sinian’s ability to lie has developed since Yun Shu telling him sometimes telling lies with a good intention are ok. 

Getting Report on His Heart Rates (Episode 16)

Meng Ran hands Yun Shu a copy of Sinian’s heart rate report from wearing the smartwatch, which can confirm that during the spikes, he was with Yun Shu. At the same time, Sinian also receives the report. As a logical person who tends to only believe in the statistical data presented in front of him, he confirms himself that he is indeed in love. Sinian and Yun Shu both text one another wanting to see each other immediately. 

Finding Each Other’s Significant Other on the Streets (Episode 17)

After Gao Zhiyi’s (Zhao Luoran) breakup with Gu Xiao (Arthur Ma), Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai) promises to help her find a new boyfriend. She wants someone who is willing to console her when she is sad, take care of her when she needs help and protect her when she is bullied. The ex-lovers stand on the streets drinking beer they try to find a partner for each other. They relocate to a karaoke bar and under the influence of alcohol, they kiss awkwardly.

He Finally Confesses (Episode 17)

Sinian’s hand is injured from trying to rescue Yun Shu and her cousin from the loan sharks. Yun Shu cleans and wraps the wounds on Sinian’s hand. Just as Sinian is about to confess to her, Meng Ran calls. Sinian does not want any longer as he builds up the courage and kisses Yun Shu, telling her he loves her.

Boundaries Change at the Dining Table (Episode 17) 

When Yun Shu first moved in, Sinian had placed tape dividing the dining counter and designated specific timetables to use the bathroom and for sharing the study (he uses it to study, she uses it as her bedroom). The tape was taken down when Yun Lan came back. And slowly, Sinian was less strict on  the rules he had originally set up. The morning after his confession, Sinian moves to sit next to Yun Shu, instead of diagonally across. He lies that the view is better on her side, but it is really just to sit closer to her. 

Sharing a Bed (Episode 18)

Sinian proposes if they can sleep together. Yun Shu’s stuffed bunny can come as well. Yun Shu spits out her water upon hearing that. They sleep on the same bed, in Sinian’s room. He asks what position she likes. They both like to sleep on their side, but with both of them at either ends of the bed, there is not enough blanket for the both of them. Sinian suggests to move closer together and he can hug her. He falls asleep immediately, but Yun Shu is wide awake the whole night and wakes up with dark undereye circles. Yun Shu tells him maybe they are progressing too fast and should slow down a bit. This worries Sinian and he consults a female colleague.

Their First Movie Date (Episode 18)

Under the recommendation of his colleague, Sinian invites Yun Shu for a movie date night. He is nervous as he tries to place his arm around her but Yun Shu ends up sleeping on his shoulder. After the movie, Sinian explains that since they got married before falling in love, he wants them to get to know each other better. He does not know a lot about love, but he is willing to change his boring ways. He is willing to learn how to love for her as he knows he really does love her and his capabilities for learning cannot be denied. Yun Shu congratulates him for graduating from daycare and gives him a kiss.

Catching a Blown Kiss (Episode 18)

When they get home, Yun Shu blows him a goodnight kiss before heading back to her room to sleep. Sinian playfully catches it and questions if that is the correct way to catch a kiss. This is not something he would do in the past, but as he mentioned, he is willing to learn how to love for Yun Shu. 

Cupboard Kiss (Episode 18)

As Yun Shu is doing the dishes, Sinian surprises her and plants a kiss on her. He catches her completely off guard with yet another kiss. He tells her to wait for him to get off work at home. This leaves Yun Shu’s heart fluttering. Sinian is progressing with his learning. 

Assuring Him He is Already Very Good (Episode 18)

Sinian finds Yun Shu’s old sketchbook and sees her criterion for a boyfriend. He panics when he counts he only fits 16 of the 24 she listed and starts tracking them with a spreadsheet. Yun Shu comes in asking if he wants to sleep on the same bed again and sees her old sketchbook. Sinian apologizes for looking at her sketchbook without her permission and also for not meeting some of her criterion. Yun Shu tells him she made that list a long time ago when she did not know much. He is already very good and feelings matter most. She gives him another kiss to boost his confidence.

Announcing He is Her Husband to Her Coworker (Episode 19)

Sinian picks up Yun Shu after work and clarifies himself as Yun Shu’s husband instead of her cousin to her coworker, shattering the coworker’s hopes. In the car, he tells Yun Shu to call him husband instead of teacher and she can practice saying it until it sounds natural. Once they have gotten together, Sinian is really not afraid to tell the rest of the world.

Giving Her Inspiration for the Manga (Episode 19)

For her upcoming interview, Yun Shu wants to draft a manga story involving an imperious CEO. Sinian calls Lu Yu to seek help. As he is patiently explaining on the phone, Sinian leans in to kiss Yun Shu. He instructs her to let him know if she has any other questions as he walks off telling Lu Yu he did not understand a word he had said on the phone. 

Surprising Her for the Success of the Manga (Episode 19)

Yun Shu’s manga ‘Mister Perfect and Miss Casual’ is a popular hit in its first week of release. Everyone keeps their calm and pretends to be busy when she tells them the good news. She has no one else to talk to except for her stuffed bunny. But, it turns out everyone has planned a surprise for her and is standing outside the study. She tells her stuffed bunny she will take the initiative and jump onto Sinian tonight. If she says so, she will do so. At this time, Sinian surprises her by opening the door and asking her which side she will jump onto. Confetti fills the air and she sees those closest and dearest to her. As they gather around to eat, she reflects how lucky and happy she is, to be surrounded by those who care and encourage her. She knows both her and her sister will be happy.

Sharing Her Worries (Episode 20)

Yun Shu’s manga is a big hit with nearly 300,000 views, but she receives a letter from a lawyer who is suing her for plagiarism for using the quotes on ‘Si Hua Nian’s’ Weibo without asking. Her manga needs to come to a halt as they resolve the lawsuit. Even though Meng Ran and Yun Lan are helping Yun Shu, Sinian still looks up information to gain more knowledge of the case. Sinian tells Yun Shu not to worry, everyone will help her. 

Sharing a Late Night Snack (Episode 20)

Yun Shu excitedly jumps from behind to hug Sinian to tell him the good news. that she is no longer being sued. She pulls out a sweet snack to eat. Sinian tells her she should not eat too many sugary things because it is not good for her health. She takes the rest of the snack out of the package with her mouth and offers some to Sinian. Sinian takes half of it and when asked if it is sweet, he gives her a quick kiss, smirks and replies yes. The once serious Sinian can turn playful in a quick second now with Yun Shu around. 

Who’s Your First Kiss? (Episode 20)

Yun Shu calls Sinian ‘husband’ as she finds him in his room, curiously asking if she was his first kiss. He pauses for a few moments before replying of course she is. Yun Shu happily jumps on top of him on the bed and kisses him, telling him he is her first kiss too. Yun Shu uncovers Sinian reading books about guys and girls. Sinian explains that as their relationship has progressed another step, he wants to learn more. Yun Shu hands him back the book but does not let go until he pulls towards him and Yun Shu kisses him once again. Sinian is still shy when Yun Shu showers him with kisses.

You Can Order Whatever You Like (Episode 21)

Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) invites Sinian to have dinner with Meng Ran and extends the invite to Yun Shu as well. Yun Shu shows up to the dinner in the exact same outfit as Chuchu. The dinner is a love square. Yun Shu starts to order dishes, but Chuchu points out they are either things that Sinian is allergic to or spicy, something that Sinian does not eat. However, Yun Shu is not aware of this as Sinian had never mentioned this when they ate at home. Sinian assures Yun Shu, telling her to go ahead and order whatever she likes. Meng Ran helps to break the awkward atmosphere in taking over the task to order dinner. Sinian helps Yun Shu to order spare ribs instead, a gesture to show Meng Ran and Chuchu that Yun Shu is his wife and he is very caring towards Yun Shu. 

Cooking Together (Episode 21)

As Yun Shu and Sinian are preparing dinner in the kitchen, she asks him the same questions that Chuchu previously asked her: what are his views, his goals, and attitude towards life? Sinian answers them in such as way that she finds it incomprehensible. But he tells her the biggest thing that has appeared in his life is meeting Yun Shu. Sinian is really learning how to be romantic now.

Wishing Him to Succeed (Episode 21)

Sinian originally wanted to end his participation in the research with Chuchu, not wanting Yun Shu to have any misunderstandings. Instead, Yun Shu helps Sinian to pack some clothes for their upcoming internal research conference. Although Yun Shu does not exactly understand his views on life, she does not want to slow him down either. She wants to be behind him to help him to achieve his goals. Sinian is touched and they share a kiss.

Waiting for Her to Come Over (Episode 21)

After Gao Zhiyi shows up to their apartment sobbing over the breakup with Lin Nuo, Sinian shows signs that she is not welcomed. Yun Shu signals to allow Zhiyi to stay over for the night, even if it means Zhiyi will be sleeping in Yun Shu’s room. Yun Shu had planned to sneak out of her room after Zhiyi falls asleep and go into Sinian’s room as they had planned before. After two failed attempts to escape, Yun Shu actually falls asleep, leaving an excited Sinian to realize she would not be coming over for the night, despite him reading books and doing pushups while waiting for her.

Goodbye Hug Rejected (Episode 22)

At the conclusion of their research project, Chuchu once again goes to find Sinian in his hotel room to ask how can two people with such different lives come together? This time, Sinian talks to her with statistical data that he has compiled. Out of the 821 times they have interacted since, Yun Shu has shown happiness in 83.33% of those times and Sinian has felt happy 73.33% of those times. These numbers indicate that as a couple, they are very happy together. She asks if she can get a farewell hug. Sinian reaches his hand out instead for a handshake. At this time, Yun Shu accidentally bumps her head onto the balcony glass door of the hotel room. Sinian tells her he already has someone who he wants to hug. 

The One He Wants to Hug (Episode 22)

He opens the door to see the trio Yun Shu there with Zhiyi and Lin Nuo. Yun Shu apologizes for eavesdropping on them. Sinian does not allow her to finish and pulls her in to kiss her. Chuchu walks off, knowing Sinian really does love Yun Shu. The two disregard those watching them as if that moment belonged only to them. 

Sending Her Off to Thesis Presentation (Episode 23)

A year later, Sinian expected Yun Shu to be late and waits for her at the university. They run hand in hand, along the same route that Yun Shu ran one year ago by herself. The students in the campus are all cheering for them. She successfully presents her thesis presentation is can graduate.

Renewing Their Marriage Contract (Episode 23)

Sinian congratulates Yun Shu for successfully presenting her thesis and not having to attend his lectures anymore. He reminds her that their contract is about to expire and asks whether she is willing to become his actual wife. Sinian announces the groom can now kiss the bride.

Life’s Views (Episode 23)

They consummate their marriage and he tells Yun Shu that his future plans are to be with her and get the Fields award before 35. Yun Shu asks him the same question again: what are his views, goals, and attitude in life? He replies he loves her when she asks what his views on life are.

Airport Farewell (Episode 23)

Zhiyi realizes Lin Nuo has been there for her all these times. She sends him off at the airport to go to Africa for work. Zhiyi tells Lin Nuo she will wait for him to come back and really regrets mistreating him previously. She asks for a second chance. Lin Nuo tells her even if they are the right person for each other, they are the wrong timing. He says they can be friends for life, gives a farewell hug and heads off. Zhiyi is left sobbing outside the airport.

Finding Him at a Movie Theater Sulking (Episode 24)

After seeing the deck of notecards that Sinian prepared and placed inside of her bag, Yun Shu decides she cannot bear to leave Sinian and Grandpa for a whole year. Yun Shu finds Sinian in a movie theater, watching a comedic movie for whenever he is sad. Sinian is shocked to see her and does not want her to give up this opportunity. Yun Shu tells him he and Grandpa are irreplaceable and she is not giving up on drawing manga. She will continue to draw, with her lover. She suggests to move into Grandpa’s beach house. Sinian thanks her for always being there for him.

Fireworks by the Ocean (Episode 24)

Sinian and Yun Shu bring Grandpa back to the beach house. Grandpa tells Yun Lan and Yun Shu that although Lu Yu and Sinian seem very different, for one acts like a playboy and the second looks to be very cool, they are both sincere. By the ocean, Sinian asks Lu Yu if he is ready to become a father. Lu Yu says honestly, he does not know what to expect but he is preparing. He only knows that he loves Yun Lan and wants to give her a home, as a sense of security. Sinian and Lu Yu set off the fireworks as they enjoy looking into the ocean at night. 

Grandpa’s Confession (Episode 24)

Grandpa reveals that he knows Sinian and Yun Shu were under a contractual marriage. As actions speak louder than words, they assure him that they are in fact in love now, as go down memory lane from the time they met and interacted with one another. Sinian admits that his life would not be perfect without the casual Yun Shu.

Themesong: 夜问 — 花粥 (Ask the Night by Huazhou)

The intro music transitions from a calm tone to a more dramatic one. The lyrics speak of two people asking the night away. They wonder how they crossed each other’s paths, although so different. They know that they are meant for each other and will always be there for each other. Even if they are lost, they still vow to find each other in their next lives. It draws parallelism to the main couple’s love story. Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) and Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) stand at very different points in their lives and lead very different lifestyles. Yet, when their paths crossed, they slowly realize that they compliment one another and are meant for each other.

Credits Roll Song: 完美先生和差不多小姐 — 花粥 (Mister Perfect and Miss Casual by Huazhou)

The credits roll song is the same name as the drama. It has a more playful vibe to it. The song is presented in the position of Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han). They lyrics speak of Yun Shu encountering Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei), which leads her to eventually fall in love with him. When she looks up, she sees the most perfect man in front of her. She also would like for Mister Perfect to accept Miss Casual, for that is who she is. As time progresses, their love only grows more and stronger. But one thing remains constant: them being by each other’s side. After Sinian confirms his love for Yun Shu, no love rivals are able to squeeze in between them and break their bond.

Subtheme Song 01: 五个人 — 花粥 (Five People by Huazhou)

This is a very soft-toned song with heavy dramatic background instrumentals. It is played whenever there is a development in romantic feelings. The lyrics speaks of the troubles and struggles of life. The soft notes goes well with the lightheartedness of the drama and any unnecessary internal dramas caused by the side characters that often appear in other dramas. It is symbolic that Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) was once alone by himself facing the troubles presented to him from the world because he did not want to find a significant other until he achieved the life goals he had set for himself. But that all changes when he encounters Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) who helps rid his loneliness but also brings him some troubles at times.

Subtheme Song 02: 夜问 — 柳爽 (Ask the Night by Leon Liu)

This is the male vocals version of the theme song. It offers a contrasting deeper voice, complimented with female backup vocals. It is almost like two people are telling the same story, but in their own way, through their differing voices.

Subtheme Song 03: 原地 — 祁圣翰 (In Place by Hank Qi)

This is the song that Meng Ran (Hank Qi) serenades Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) with her birthday to confess his love for her. She rejects him as she only loves Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei). But, this is actually the perfect song for the main couple of this drama. The song speaks of two different people, whose paths eventually intersect. Love arrives at a slow pace. But when one comes to realize their distance, the other will be standing at the same place waiting. Sinian and Yun Shu cross paths and slowly develop feelings for one another. Although Sinian is slower to realize, Yun Shu has still waited for him, right where she was. This is my favorite out of all the songs. I like the meaningful lyrics, as well as the tune of the song.

Grandpa Cupid

Grandpa (Kefa Cui) wanted to introduce Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) to his grandson Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) the moment she helped him out from under a bench at the hospital. Grandpa was surprised to see Sinian introducing Yun Shu as his girlfriend. But the truth behind that was Sinian wanted and needed to find someone at the hospital to pretend to be his girlfriend as soon as possible to encourage his Grandpa to undergo a procedure. Yun Shu just so happened to be there at the correct time and correct place. Sinian and Yun Shu decided to enter a marriage contract to please Grandpa. Grandpa helps them to bond and plant a seed which eventually blossomed to true love. Grandpa also gives them advice and wisdom individually when he sees they are troubled with things in life.

Side Note: Grandpa is so adorable and always looking out for the couple he had helped bring together.

Friendship Trio

Yun Shu’s best friends at the university are Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran) and Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai). Zhiyi is a graduate student so she is still in school while Lin Nuo has graduated and is a nurse at the hospital. Zhiyi and Lin Nuo dated three years ago, but broke up, remaining just friends. They are the only two friends who were invited to the wedding. Through the girl talks that Yun Shu and Zhiyi have from time to time, Zhiyi goes from teasing Yun Shu to having Yun Shu admit that she has really fallen in love with Sinian. Yun Shu is also there for Zhiyi to console her when she has her doubts of reconciling with Lin Nuo after Zhiyi broke up with her current boyfriend. It is also Yun Shu who tells Zhiyi that Lin Nuo went to Africa by himself and not with his coworker, prompting Zhiyi to fly over to find her and rekindle their romance for once and for all.

Side Note: Zhiyi and Lin Nuo’s storyline had a good flow between the stages of when they turned from just friends to him comforting her after a breakup and to them finally getting back together.

Former Classmate Turned Competitor

Meng Ran (Hang Qi) is a lawyer and Sinian’s former classmate. During their school days, they were always competing to be the first in the class, which Sinian always won and Meng Ran followed in second. Years later, when Sinian reaches out to Meng Ran again, it is to ask him to draft a marriage contract. Sinian also asks Meng Ran to hire Yun Shu to work at his law office, rather than working at the supermarket as a beer promoter. The more Meng Ran spends time with Yun Shu, the more he realizes that he has fallen in love with Yun Shu. They bond over reading and following the same manga. He is attracted to Yun Shu’s personality and even declares to Sinian that he will court Yun Shu because he knows they are only under a contract. Meng Ran confessed to Yun Shu but she rejects him, saying she only loves Sinian. Meng Ran agrees to quietly love her as she does the same with Sinian. Because of the declaration, Sinian’s jealously switches on and he realizes his true feelings towards Yun Shu. He is heartbroken to see them holding hands downstairs of their apartment, but Meng Ran was only there to hand Yun Shu back her phone. After Sinian and Yun Shu officially get together, Meng Ran does as promised, keeping his love to Yun Shu to himself, and giving them his full blessings.

Side Note: Meng Ran is a very likable character. He helps Sinian to realize his feelings, but he also gives the couple space and even tries to prevent Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) from doing any damage.

Former Crush Turned Love Rival

Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) is Sinian’s university classmate and research buddy. She is also Meng Ran’s former classmate, who sends him a watch, citing it is for people who have troubles with love. Meng Ran gifts the watch to Sinian, which tracks his heart rate and helps him to confirm that he really does have feelings for Yun Shu. Chuchu comes back from overseas to conduct a research study with the university professors, including Sinian. She is caught by surprise that Sinian is already married because she thought they would eventually end up together, sooner or later after Sinian achieved his goals. But before she is introduced to Sinian’s wife, Chuchu is also the Weibo user ‘Si Hua Nian’ and sporadically posts thoughts on love. Yun Shu stumbles upon her Weibo and uses the text as inspiration for her manga, not knowing that is plagiarism. Chuchu reaches out to Yun Shu letting her know she would like to collaborate with her on her manga. They quickly becomes friends and Chuchu pours out her heart, telling Yun Shu the man she loves has married, without mentioning names. When they are introduced to each other by Sinian, it is an awkward moment as the three of them come to realization. Chuchu tries to discourage Yun Shu saying there are too many differences between her and Sinian and their love will not work down the line, but Yun Shu politely refuses. After the conclusion of the research project, Chuchu requests a goodbye hug from Sinian, only for him to reject her and offer a handshake instead.

Side Note: I appreciate the screenwriters for not adding any extra and unnecessary drama. She stays calm and rational while discouraging Yun Shu, but when she realizes that there is 0% chance of being with Sinian, she quietly walks away from the picture.

Her Sister and His Best Friend

Yun Shu grew up with her older sister Yun Lan (Ma Yunting) after their father passed away. Yun Shu is a little fearful of her sister who had so far helped to make decisions for her and looked after her, even when Yun Lan is overseas. Yun Lan is a successful and smart lawyer who is quickly climbing the ranks. She had a one night stand with Lu Yu (Dai Yun Fan) overseas and they reencounter one another at Sinian and Yun Shu’s wedding. Lu Yu is an actor and Sinian’s best friend. Sinian often goes to Lu Yu for advice on love. Lu Yu starts to court Yun Lan. At first she disregards him and tries to ignore him, but finally gives in and accepts to be his girlfriend. However, she was not ready for the spotlight and the fans that came with dating an actor. She tries to distance herself from him, but Lu Yu does not give up. She angers him when she represents Han Rong (Miao Yilun), someone who had previously tried to drug her and Lu Yu had threatened in public. When Lu Yu realizes that Yun Lan only agreed to represent Han Rong for his own benefit, he softens down. After Lu Yu finds out that Yun Lan is pregnant, he proposes to her.

Side Note: Their storyline was a bit choppy. It did not flow as naturally as the other storylines.

Their Love

What started off as a professor failing a student evolved into a marriage contract, which turned into the two parties falling in love with each other. Sinian and Yun Shu display what it means for opposites to attract. He is a perfectionist, logical, and clear minded of his future. She is clumsy, emotional, and a little cloudy on her future. They get married before they fall in love. It takes Sinian a bit more time to realize his own feelings, but when he does, he is willing to learn how to love Yun Shu, for the one he knows he loves. Sinian is attentive and caring towards Yun Shu. Yun Shu sees that Sinian is trying to consider her feelings, but nevertheless, encourages him to take on the research project with Chuchu, telling him even though she does not necessarily understand his views, she still wants to help him reach his goals. Yun Shu gives up an opportunity to shadow her favorite manga artist in Japan because she knows they both cannot bear not being with each other for a whole year. This couple shows that differences do not matter because as long as their love is strong, nothing and nobody can come in their way.

Side Note: Their storyline was so smooth and sweet for the entire ride! I also liked the addition of the ‘extra scenes’ at the end of some episodes. Sinian and Yun Shu make a very convincing couple. All the drawings that were shown in the drama were drawn by Xu Ruo Han herself!

…On Perfect and Casual (6 Stages of Love)

Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) and Yun Shu’s (Xu Ruo Han) love was a progression in Perfect and Casual, which was sweet from beginning to end.

Stage 1: Differences

When they first encounter each other, they get off on the wrong foot. Because Sinian does not allow her to present her thesis, Yun Shu is unable to graduate on time. As a result, she is unable to start her job. At the same time, Yun Shu is scammed by her cousin and the person living in the apartment that she thought she had purchased was no one other than Sinian. He is a perfectionist and hardcore researcher by nature with specific goals to achieve while she is a casual and easygoing graduate trying to figure out life.

Stage 2: Stimulation

Sinian’s grandfather is diagnosed with Stage 4 of cancer. Sinian promises to introduce his girlfriend to him. To encourage his grandfather who is about to undergo a procedure, by coincidence, Yun Shu is the one he finds roaming the hospital. They enter an agreement for a marriage to last for one year, to please his grandfather. In the contract, Sinian spells out they should not have any skinship. He even fines himself RMB 100 every time he accidentally touches Yun Shu. This starts their marriage, on the basis of a contract rather than on the foundation of love. As they live under the same roof, Yun Shu tries to go by Sinian’s rules, as she is staying in his apartment.

Stage 3: Admiration

As they start to interact more, Yun Shu sees the gentle and caring side of Sinian and starts to have a secret crush on him, obvious to her sister and her friends, but Sinian does not get it. She is a little heartbroken when he treats her coldly and leaves the apartment. But he is only distancing himself from her, not wanting their contractual marriage to affect her later in the future. Sinian is even willing to explain to her future boyfriend or husband if needed. Sinian starts to miss Yun Shu’s presence at home. When he realizes that she does not mind, he lets her know that he does not mind either and invites her back home. He welcomes her with new curtains, bedsheets and chest drawers, all indicating he pays attention to her in details.

Stage 4: Competition

Meng Ran (Hank Qi), who is Yun Shu’s boss at the law office, and also Sinian’s former classmate declares to Sinian that he has fallen in love with Yun Shu and wants to court her. Meng Ran knows why Sinian is attracted to Yun Shu. The two men have indirect showdowns to win Yun Shu. Meng Ran serenades Yun Shu with a love song on her birthday, but, at the end Yun Shu rejects Meng Ran’s love because she only loves Sinian. Meng Ran’s presence worked as a catalyst for Sinian to realize his true feelings quicker and finally confess to Yun Shu, as he is mostly focused on his work and research studies.

Stage 5: Confidence

Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng), who is Sinian’s college classmate and former research buddy also comes back. Chuchu is shocked to learn that Sinian is married, as she previously had a crush on him, but he openly declared he would not think about love until he received the Fields Medal by age 35. In her mind, she thought they would eventually end up together, it was just a matter of time. Chuchu becomes friends with Yun Shu prior to knowing she is Sinian’s wife. But when she does find out, she challenges Yun Shu, telling her that she is too different from Sinian to make things work. Yun Shu proudly exclaims that she is Sinian’s wife now. Chuchu does not give up and requests an answer from Sinian, who presents her with the statistical data that he has come up with that indicates he is most happy when she is with Yun Shu. Sinian refuses to give Chuchu a goodbye hug and instead kisses Yun Shu in front of Chuchu with no sense of shyness, indirectly encouraging Chuchu to move on.

Stage 6: Happiness

The two love rivals Meng Ran and Lin Chuchu realize that Sinian and Yun Shu’s love has only grown stronger and cannot be easily broken apart after they have built trust within each other. Sinian is attentive and caring, only wanting the best for Yun Shu. At the same time Yun Shu has her own thinking and knows she cannot bear to leave Sinian for 3 years. They decide to move in with Grandpa to accompany him for his last days. Grandpa (Kefa Cui) coyly admits that he knew they entered a contractual marriage from the very beginning, but without them having to explain the truth, he knows that they are really in love this time. Sinian tells Yun Shu that without her casual outtake next to him, his life would not be perfect.

Perfect and Casual 完美先生和差不多小姐 Episode 24 (End)

Episode 24: A Happy Ending

Inside the airport bathroom, Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) finds a deck of notecards prepared by Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) and placed inside her handbag. Sinian had carefully researched the surrounding area of her workplace, including how many restaurants and where the closest metro station is. He even packed his jacket in her suitcase and instructs her to hang it at her balcony so that it does not seem like she is living alone. Yun Shu leaves the airport and gets on a taxi. She cries the entire ride as she reads the notecards. Yun Shu finds Sinian in a movie theater. Sinian had mentioned before that he watches a comedic movie whenever he is sad. Sinian is shocked to see her and does not want her to give up this opportunity. Yun Shu tells him he and Grandpa (Kefa Cui) are irreplaceable and she is not giving up on drawing manga. She will continue to draw, with her lover. She suggests to move into Grandpa’s beach house. Sinian thanks her for always being there for him.

Lu Yu (Dai Yun Fan) finds Yun Lan (Ma Yanting) after work to apologize for just realizing how she was trying to help him by being Han Rong’s (Miao Yilun) lawyer. He asks to not breakup because he only said that out of anger. Yun Lan tells him that she has thought about it too, but there are too many differences between them and it was doubt to happen. Yan Lan is feeling extra tired during work. She takes a pregnancy test and it turns out positive. She tells this news to Yun Shu, who is very excited to be an aunt. But Yun Lan is not because this is all out of her expectations. Regardless of Yun Lan warning her not to tell Lu Yu, Yun Shu and Sinian break the news to Lu Yu. Lu Yu builds the courage to propose to Yun Lan in front of a crowd. He tells her he has always thought of their future, but just did not have the courage to propose because he was afraid she would reject him. Yun Lan fakes her stomach hurting to leave the crowd without giving an answer to Lu Yu. Instead, she gives him a three months probation period.

While at the hospital arranging for Grandpa to be discharged, Yun Shu bumps into Xia Lin (Zhou Jing), the nurse who was supposed to go to Africa with Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai). Xia Lin tells Yun Shu only one nurse went to Africa from their department and it is Lin Nuo. Yun Shu tells this to Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran), who cannot believe Lin Nuo would go out to lie about this to avoid her. Zhiyi messages Lin Nuo that she has signed up for a volunteer program going to Africa. Lin Nuo remarks that she really does not know how to step on the brakes when it comes to love. Nevertheless he agrees to pick her up from the airport in Africa.

Sinian and Yun Shu bring Grandpa back to the beach house. Grandpa tells Yun Lan and Yun Shu that although Lu Yu and Sinian seem very different, for one acts like a playboy and the second looks to be very cool, they are both sincere. Episode 23: All Things Come to An End

Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) consults with the doctor who also thinks that bringing Grandpa (Kefa Cui) overseas is the best treatment option. Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) informs Gao Mei (Ran Qian) that she will have to give up the opportunity to work as an assistant under her idol manga artist. She cannot choose her career over the one she loves and those who love her. Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) tells Sinian she will be going back overseas after the conclusion of the research project. She questions if Sinian is hesitant to bring Grandpa overseas for treatment because of his health condition or if he does not want to part ways with Yun Shu.

Lu Yu’s (Dai Yun Fan) manager Cici (Gill Zhou) goes to find Yun Lan (Ma Yanting) to ask if she can find a solution for the lawsuit from Han Rong (Miao Yilun). Lu Yu clearly does not have things worked out himself and has already been frozen by his company. Cici knows this will be detrimental to Lu Yu’s career. Han Rong meets with Yun Lan and persuades her to continue being his company’s legal consultant. If she agrees, he will in return, give her the evidence of Lu Yu threatening him on the streets. Lu Yu is surprised to see Yun Lan representing Han Rong at their settlement meeting. He questions her motives and if she has sacrificed anything for their relationship, or if she has loved him. He requests for them to breakup. Lu Yu sends his lawyer to represent him to talk to Yun Lan. After his lawyer informs him that Yun Lan had fought to add a line in the settlement agreement that no one can expose this, Lu Yu knows he wrongfully blamed Yun Lan. Lu Yu tries to reach Yun Lan, but she decides to take a vacation for herself.

Sinian looks over Yun Shu’s thesis paper but she has unconsciously stapled it on all four corners because she has been worried about Grandpa’s health. Sinian assures her to focus on the thesis presentation first, he will think of a solution for Grandpa. Sinian expected Yun Shu to be late and waits for her at the university. They run hand in hand, along the same route that Yun Shu ran one year ago by herself. The students in the campus are all cheering for them. Sinian congratulates Yun Shu for successfully presenting her thesis and not having to attend his lectures anymore. He reminds her that their contract is about to expire and asks whether she is willing to become his actual wife. Yun Shu asks to wait for one year, for she will go and learn under her idol manga artist and he can bring Grandpa overseas. Sinian announces the groom can now kiss the bride. They consummate their marriage and he tells Yun Shu that his future plans are to be with her and get the Fields award before 35. He tells Yun Shu he loves her when she asks what his views on life are.

On Yun Shu’s graduation day, both Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran) and Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai) come to support her. Lin Nuo tries to avoid talking to and taking pictures with Zhiyi. Yun Shu and Sinian’s photo session ends abruptly when other students request to take pictures with Sinian. Zhiyi remarks Sinian is both handsome and popular. Zhiyi apologizes for mistreating Lin Nuo before and asks if they can start afresh. She thought since he loved her, he would always be there for her. She is ready to register marriage with him. Lin Nuo notifies her that all is too late as he will be going to Africa soon for work with another nurse. He has moved on and hopes she will find someone who loves her. Grandpa refuses to go overseas because he wants to die with dignity. Grandpa tells Sinian not to tell Yun Shu, not wanting to affect her career opportunities. Yun Shu says goodbye to Sinian before entering the airport because she is afraid that she will not want to board if he accompanies her to check-in. Yun Shu is going away for one week to set up working at her idol’s office and is planning to come back to send off Sinian and Grandpa for treatment. Zhiyi tells Lin Nuo she will wait for him to come back and really regrets mistreating him previously. She asks for a second chance. Lin Nuo tells her even if they are the right person for each other, they are the wrong timing. He says they can be friends for life, gives a farewell hug and heads off.

Perfect and Casual 完美先生和差不多小姐 Episode 22

Episode 22: Love Backed by Math

Inside the hotel room where they are analyzing data, Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) comes in with coffee for the research team. She hands Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) his special order of coffee. Chuchu questions that since the distance is so great between Sinian and Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han), it would require a lot of time to work things out. Sinian says they have already transitioned from a contractual marriage to a marriage relationship, and thus this is not something he and Yun Shu need to prove to anyone. Grandpa (Kefa Cui) is back in the hospital, but tells Yun Shu not to tell Sinian. Grandpa assures Yun Shu that since Sinian and Chuchu are so alike, like two parallel lines, they can never intersect. From the moment he saw Yun Shu, he know she would be a perfect fit for Sinian.

Yun Shu sees Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai) on her way out. He does not think he and Zhiyi’s relationship are on the same level because he feels inferior. Yun Shu decides to personally go to the hotel to find Sinian. She brings along Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran) and Lin Nuo, who argue the entire car ride there. The hotel receptionist is unwilling to disclose the hotel room number where the research team is, until Zhiyi puts on a show and sobs in the hotel lobby. The trio locate Sinian just as Chuchu goes to find Sinian once again, unwilling to let go. This time, Sinian talks to her with statistical data that he has compiled. Out of the 821 times they have interacted since, Yun Shu has shown happiness in 83.33% of those times and Sinian has felt happy 73.33% of those times. These numbers indicate that as a couple, they are very happy together. Sinian has always wanted to be able to control things his ways. This changed when Grandpa was diagnosed and he lost control. But, he met Yun Shu, who is the polar opposite of him and gives a casual outtake on life. She has changed him. Sinian admits he and Chuchu have similar life experiences, similar personalities, and similar goals for their future. However, he has only seen her as his best friend. He hopes Chuchu can find someone who is different from her and can meet her halfway, just as how he would if he went hiking with Yun Shu. One person looking at a beautiful landscape is just not the same as sharing the view with the one you love.

Chuchu asks if he has ever liked her. He replies he did not know what love was until he met Yun Shu. Chuchu asks if she can get a farewell hug. Sinian reaches his hand out instead for a handshake. At this time, Yun Shu accidentally bumps her head onto the balcony glass door of the hotel room. Sinian tells her he has someone who he wants to hug already. He opens the door to see the trio there. Yun Shu apologizes for eavesdropping on them. Sinian does not allow her to finish and pulls her in to kiss her. Zhiyi and Lin Nuo watch without blinking while Chuchu walks away sadly. Lin Nuo calls a car for Zhiyi, but he does not go with her. Zhiyi calls him out for being weird lately, to which he replies perhaps this is his real self. Lu Yu (Dai Yun Fan) surprises Yun Lan (Ma Yanting) at her apartment. She questions him about him being sued by Han Rong (Miao Yilun). Lu Yu had went to threaten Han Rong to leave Yun Lan alone, which was all caught on surveillance camera. Yun Lan questions if this was worth Lu Yu risking his career.

Gao Mei (Ran Qian) informs Yun Shu that her idol manga artist has invited her to join his studio as his assistant with a contract lasting three years. Yun Shu consults Yun Lan how to choose between pursuing her dream and leaving Sinian. Yun Lan does not give her an answer because she wants Yun Shu to decide for herself, her opinions should not be considered. Grandpa’s doctor breaks the news to Sinian that Grandpa has two months left. The cancer has spread to his bones and Grandpa knows, but does not want the doctor to tell him. Chuchu goes to visit Grandpa at the hospital and delivers the good news to Sinian that she has communicated with an overseas doctor about Grandpa’s cancer and has a new treatment option. Sinian immediately jumps on the idea of going overseas with Grandpa. On her way out, Chuchu congratulates Yun Shu for receiving an offer from her idol manga artist, something Yun Shu has not yet discussed with Sinian.

Episode 21: Love Rival Challenges

Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) avoids talking to Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) when they get home. At the end, she cannot resist and asks him why he lied about his first kiss. Sinian explains that Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) kissed him on the cheeks when he headed back home. He only thought of that as a gesture of goodbye and nothing more than that. Yun Shu is unable to fall asleep and draws more manga by the window, finally falling asleep. She awakes the next morning when Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran) calls asking to meet her immediately. Zhiyi tells her Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai) broke up with her because when they were playing a game, she answered Gu Xiao (Arthur Ma) as her boyfriend instead of him. They decide to give him a few days and he will contact Zhiyi again.

Chuchu invites Sinian to have dinner with Meng Ran (Hank Qi) and invites Yun Shu too. Zhiyi goes shopping with Yun Shu, at a store that Chuchu frequents. Yun Shu shows up to the dinner in the exact same outfit as Chuchu. The dinner is a love square. Yun Shu starts to order dishes, but Chuchu points out they are either things that Sinian is allergic to or spicy, something that Sinian does not eat. However, Sinian had never mentioned this when they ate at home. Meng Ran helps to break the awkward atmosphere. Sinian helps Yun Shu to order spare ribs instead, a gesture to show Meng Ran and Chuchu that Yun Shu is his wife. After dinner, Chuchu tells Meng Ran that she finds it hard to believe that two people from such different background have gotten together. Chuchu asks Meng Ran if he has a crush on Yun Shu. Meng Ran replies that they are well and he gives them his blessings. Meng Ran asks her not to bother them. Chuchu asks him if he knows they are married with a contract agreement.

It turns out Yun Shu had drew on her manga story about the marriage contract without noticing. Chuchu invites Yun Shu out for coffee and questions her about the marriage contract with Sinian. Chuchu asks if she has the same views, same goals, and same attitude in life as Sinian, because she does. Chuchu lists what he knows as Sinian’s answers for the three questions. Yun Shu combats Chuchu and informs her although she is younger than her and has fewer experiences in life than her, she is Sinian’s wife and can differentiate between personal matters and work within life. Yun Shu looks forward to collaborating with Chuchu on her manga. As Yun Shu and Sinian are preparing dinner, she asks him the same questions that Chuchu previously asked her. Sinian answers them in such as way that she finds it incomprehensible. But he tells her the biggest thing that has appeared in his life is meeting Yun Shu.

As a fellow female coworker is helping Lin Nuo with his wound, Zhiyi walks in and thinks they are having a fling behind her back and this is the real reason why Lin Nuo wanted to break up with her. Sinian originally wanted to end his participation in the research with Chuchu, not wanting Yun Shu to have any misunderstandings. Instead, Yun Shu helps Sinian to pack some clothes for their upcoming internal research conference. Although Yun Shu does not exactly understand his views on life, she does not want to slow him down either. She does want to help him to achieve his goals. Sinian is touched and they share a kiss. They are interrupted by Zhiyi, who shows up sobbing about her breakup. Sinian is waiting to go to bed with Yun Shu, but Zhiyi requests to stay over for the night and to sleep with Yun Shu. Originally, Yun Shu pretends to fall asleep and sneak out to Sinian’s room when Zhiyi falls asleep. But, she fails both times to escape and at the end she falls asleep for real. Meanwhile, Sinian is reading books and doing pushups as he waits for Yun Shu, until he realizes ultimately that she is not going to his room for the night.

Episode 20: A Secret Admirer

Yun Lan (Ma Yanting) goes rock climbing with Lu Yu (Dai Yun Fan) and when she falls, he catches her, assuring her there is nothing to be afraid of, he is there for her. When some fans request to take pictures with Lu Yu, he does not let go of Yun Lan’s hand. Yun Shu’s (Xu Ruo Han) manga is a big hit with nearly 300,000 views. As she is happily discussing with Gao Mei (Ran Qian), she receives a letter from a lawyer who is suing her for plagiarism. She had used the quotes on ‘Si Hua Nian’s’ Weibo without asking. Her manga needs to come to a halt as they resolve the lawsuit. Yun Lan and Meng Ran (Hank Qi) propose to issue an apology to the person behind the Weibo, but Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) suggests that this will affect Yun Shu in the future. They continue to contact the Weibo user, but they do not receive a response. Even though there are two lawyer professionals helping Yun Shu, Sinian still looks up information to gain more knowledge of the case. Sinian tells Yun Shu not to worry, everyone will help her. While hugging him from behind, Yun Shu gets a reply from the Weibo user.

Yun Shu spots Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) while waiting to meet with the Weibo user. Chuchu orders the coffee in the same specifics as Sinian. Yun Shu realizes that Chuchu is the Weibo user. Chuchu agrees to drop the lawsuit and asks if Yun Shu is interested in collaborating if she needs text for her manga because she really does like ‘Mister Perfect and Miss Casual’. At home, Yun Shu excitedly jumps from behind to hug Sinian to tell him the good news. Yun Shu pulls out a sweet snack to eat. Sinian tells her she should not eat too many sugary things because it is not good for health. She takes the rest of the snack out of the package with her mouth and offers some to Sinian. Sinian takes half of it and when asked if it is sweet, he gives her a quick kiss, smirks and replies yes. Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran) confesses to Yun Shu that she feels uneasy when she is alone with Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai). When they go on dates, she tries to bring someone along so it is less awkward. Lin Nuo brings Zhiyi to a fancy restaurant and asks if she has any plans for their future. Lin Nuo wants to move back home with her and start a small business, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Zhiyi has not given much thought about the future and wants to stay in the city.

While discussing their data, the groupmates note that Sinian and Chuchu are very much in sync and seem very compatible with one another. Sinian informs them that he is married. Chuchu is shattered, as she recalls back during their university days, Sinian said he will not think about love relationships until he gets the Fields Medal. Sinian admits until he met his wife, he did not realize how childish his thinking was about not pursuing any love relationships until he achieved his life’s goals. He describes his wife as someone who makes him worry and gives him trouble from time to time, but she has changed him. Chuchu goes shopping with Yun Shu, telling her the man she loves has married. She tells the history of her and Sinian, without mentioning any names. Chuchu and Sinian were classmates who eventually studied abroad in the same major together and were in the same group conducting research. He was a man who was perfect and loved math. Although Chuchu had a crush on him, he was not interested in pursuing a relationship at the moment. She thought they would eventually end up together and get married down the road. When he had family issues, he flew back home on short notice. Chuchu went to say goodbye and kissed him, but did not have time to confess her feelings. Chuchu confirms with Meng Ran that Sinian has indeed gotten married.

Yun Shu calls Sinian ‘husband’ as she tries to ask if she was his first kiss. He pauses for a few moments before replying of course she is. Yun Shu happily jumps on top of him on the bed and kisses him, telling him he is her first kiss too. Yun Shu uncovers Sinian reading books about guys and girls. Sinian explains that as their relationship has progressed another step, he wants to learn more. Yun Shu hands him back the book but does not let go until he pulls towards him and Yun Shu kisses him once again. Yun Shu goes to find Zhiyi who complains she has been meeting with her new friend Chuchu more than with her. While walking, they see Sinian holding Chuchu, but only because he grabbed her to avoid a car hitting her. Sinian introduces Yun Shu as his wife to Chuchu. Sinian introduces Chuchu as the leader of their research project to Yun Shu. Yun Shu introduces Chuchu as the Weibo user behind ‘Si Hua Nian’ to Sinian. Yun Shu realizes that the man who Chuchu has a crush on is Sinian.

Episode 19: Love’s Supports

Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) tells Gao Zhiyi (Zhao Luoran) that she is planning to interview to be a manga artist. At the shopping mall, they see a couple who is about to get together. They bump into a woman who encourages the man to confess his feelings for the woman who he loves. Yun Shu breaks the news to Meng Ran (Hank Qi) that she is quitting her job at the law office. Although he has his doubts, he encourages her to go for it. Grandpa (Kefa Cui) learns from the doctor he has three months left to live. However, he embraces it, wanting to spend his final days with his loved ones. Gu Xiao (Arthur Ma) goes to find Zhiyi at the college campus to explain to her that the woman whom she saw him with was just his ex-girlfriend and he was doing her a favor to lie to her mother who was sick. Lin Nuo (Sheng Guangshuai) comes out to declare that he and Zhiyi have already gotten back together.

Lu Yu (Dai Yun Fan) waits for Yun Lan (Ma Yanting) to come home, only to see Han Rong (Miao Yilun) picking her up. He follows them to a bar and takes a drink for her. Han Rong had instructed his people to add drugs to the drink because he has an interest in Yun Lan. Yun Lan takes Lu Yu back to her apartment. She finds it hard to believe that he has never fallen in love previously with the actresses he acted with in his dramas. He explains that he has not, until he met her. With Yun Lan, he does not have to be a superstar, he can just be himself. They reconcile. Zhang Sinian (Miles Wei) picks up Yun Shu after work and clarifies himself as Yun Shu’s husband instead of her cousin to her coworker. In the car, he tells Yun Shu to call him husband instead of teacher and she can practice saying it until it sounds natural. For her upcoming interview, Yun Shu wants to draft a manga story involving an imperious CEO. Sinian calls Lu Yu to ask for help. As he is explaining on the phone, Sinian leans in to kiss Yun Shu. Sinian accompanies Yun Shu to her interview. He nervously waits for her outside and consoles her when she comes out looking deflated. But, it was all just an act. She actually received an offer.

Sinian’s supervisor introduces Lin Chuchu (Joy Sheng) as someone who their department would be working closely with to conduct research on statistical data. Chuchu reconnects with Sinian and notes he has changed, in that he has more warmth. Gao Mei (Ran Qian) suggests to Yun Shu to have a main quote for each day’s manga story as the main topic. She and Zhiyi find someone on Weibo by the name of ‘Si Hua Nian’ and uses her published quotes as inspiration. Zhiyi does not entirely think Gu Xiao is lying and admits she has already forgiven him. She does not know who to pick between Gu Xiao and Lin Nuo. Lin Nuo overhears this conversation from outside the dorm.

Sinian is very captivated seeing Yun Shu so focused on drawing her manga. Yun Shu presents her manga story ‘Mister Perfect and Miss Casual’ to the team. They think it will be a big hit and agree to start publishing it the following week. Gao Mei congratulates Yun Shu for successfully becoming a manga artist. Yun Shu calls Sinian to tell him the good news. He is very happy, but keeps his cool, telling her he is busy at work and will talk after they get home. Yun Shu calls Yun Lan, but she also seems disinterested. Yun Shu calls Zhiyi. Although Zhiyi is jumping up and down for joy, she also keeps her cool and calmly congratulates her. Yun Shu goes home to talk to her stuffed bunny instead. What she does not know is that, everyone has planned a surprise for her and is standing outside the study. She says she will take the initiative and jump onto Sinian tonight. If she says so, she will do so. At this time, Sinian surprises her by opening the door and asking her which side she will jump onto. Confetti fills the air and she sees those closest and dearest to her. As they gather around to eat, she reflects how lucky and happy she is, to be surrounded by those who care and encourage her. She knows both her and her sister will be blissful.
