Episode 18: The PastEight years ago, Qiao Fei (Yang Mi) was the patient of psychologist-to-be Gao Jia Ming (Vengo Gao). At first, she would not open up to him about her troubles, but slowly began to tell him about his mother’s illness. Instead of establishing a clear doctor and patient boundary, Gao Jia Ming went to ask a doctor to help her mother, frustrating the head of his department. Instead of going to England to further pursue his research, he decided to change fields into studying neurology instead, specializing in brain tumors, what Qiao Fei’s mother had. His decision ultimately shocked his adopted family. At his medical school graduation, he openly confessed his love for Qiao Fei. Not wanting to embarrass him in front of his colleagues, she accepted his flowers. He gifted her lavish handbags and luxury goods, but when she wanted to breakup with him, he turned to drinking.
It turns out Wu Jia Yi (Nikki Li) took the gifts for her own use instead of giving them back to Gao Jia Ming, as directed by Qiao Fei. Wu Jia Yi withdraws enough money from Wang Xu Dong’s (Leon Zhang) credit card to cover all the gifts and gives a stash of cash to Gao Jia Ming, asking him not to bother Qiao Fei again. Not understanding why Qiao Fei took 100,000 RMB and ran off, Gao Jia Ming asks Wu Jia Yi to help him set up a meeting with Qiao Fei so they can talk it out, one on one. After Qiao Fei promises they can be friends again, Gao Jia Ming trails behind her and rents the apartment next to her and takes the same taxi as her to send her off to take the first official exam.
Zhang Qiao Chu (Wu Mian) is furious when she sees Zhou Nan (Wang Ren Jun) on the front cover of a business magazine. In the interview, he mentions he has businesses with her, but she does not want to work with him. Zhou Nan and Wen Xiao Hua’s (Zhou Qi Qi) marriage is anything but happy. He constantly forces her to accompany him to public functions and family gatherings, even if she is feeling unwell. She calls Cheng Jia Yang, but he does not pick up.
