In episode 19 of Speed of Life, Yiu Yiu (Natalie Tong) ‘decodes’ the words of a “serial killer” case that Sze Ma (Benjamin Yuen) claims he has been unable to solve after all these years. After giving her a page of numbers, Yiu Yiu finally figures out that each number corresponds to the page-line-word of the serial killer’s recorded statement. Through each of the words, Yiu Yiu finds:
“In this world, every human being is lonely. Loneliness is a tall wall, and even with the billions of cells in the human body to accompany it, loneliness still exists and does not go away. I do not have the power [to defend against it], so I can only build a fortress, to use the logical cells in my body to lock up the loneliness. Or you can say, the logic in me has killed the sensitivity in me. Only then, can loneliness depart from me. But I do hope that one day, you, the enemy will appear using a strong weapon to take down the tall wall that has locked me up for so long, and destroy the fortress that has surrounded me. This kind of weapon, in human language is called… LOVE.”
Upon seeing her text message, Sze Ma runs to open the door, to find Yiu Yiu there. They embrace each other and get together at last.
-This was a very powerful statement to express his love, as for Sze Ma to admit his lack of sensitivity is something uneasy for him. For him, a police officer, who’s best friend is Jason, a basketball, this is surely safe to do. In case Yiu Yiu rejected him, he would pretend it was just an unsolved case. But, fortunately Yiu Yiu accepted him, and became the ‘key’ to unlock his inner self and express it all, instead of using pure logic and calculation to solve everything because in Yiu Yiu’s terms, ‘love’ cannot be calculated.
